Why Matthew Gray Gubler Will Not Return In Criminal Minds As Dr. Spencer Reid

Dr. Spencer Reid and Matthew Simmons will not be present in Criminal Minds: Evolution, releasing on Paramount+ in November.

The FBI's Elite Criminal Cases team is about to face their biggest case ever in Criminal Minds Season 16.

This time FBI elite team will face an UnSub, who used pandemic to create a massive network of serial killers.

FBI team will include artists like Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, A.J. Cook as Jennifer "JJ" Jareau, Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, Aisha Tyler as Dr. Tara Lewis,

Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez and Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia.

But like I already mentioned, Matthew Gray Gubler will not reprise his role as Spencer Reid and Daniel Henney as Matthew Simmons.

During a press tool panel, the show's executive producers Erica Messer told that it's a mystery what Dr. Spencer Reid and Matthew Simmons are doing right now.

But both have not been forgotten.

Regarding the absence of both actors, Erica Messer said that our only wish was that the show should resume with that same actors with whom this show was shut down.

We started shooting in September, and will end around December.

Actors also have many other projects in which they have to work.

We had very little time to bring all the actors together.
